Happy birthday Mat!!
I'm so glad that you were born on this day not that many years ago.
My pal, Lonnie, writes a very excellent opinion piece pretty regularly commenting on the state of the nation's political circus. I Just Have To Say is a must read. Check it out.

Thank you Matthew for reminding me. Nanowrimo is coming up!! I so encourage anyone and everyone who likes to write or who is going through some kind of personal crisis or sifting through hopeless sands of anxiety or teenage or midlife angst or who is twenty nine, DO IT!!
You can write a novel. I did it last year, and even though my life lately barely has time for me to fit in a shower (not for any busy busy, palm pilot, pay-the-nanny, power lunch reason, but for sheer lack of any ability to manage time and a constant desire to be not under a roof) I am going to try and do it again this year. And this year my goal is to do it in long hand. Oh yeah, you heard me. I will write my novel on hills and mountains and looking at the sea and riding the bus and sitting on the toilet.
For, even though my novel from last year still sits on the kitchen floor in the corner (i'm sorry honey) she will always be the one who could get me out of myself. That novel and I we worked through mugging and urban frustration. We went through hair dye and punk rock music and cigarettes and came out on the other end a healed entity, standing proudly yet shakily on the stage at the Thank God It's Over party and reading an excerpt from my first work of fiction.
Nanowrimo is coming, and I say to anyone who's interested, join me. Matthew, if you hadn't written I probably wouldn't do it. I need support, and we can commiserate. It is a huge undertaking, but one best not thought too much about. I didn't know what I would write until it came out of my fingers and onto the keyboard and that is how your novel becomes a living thing, breathing and changing each day. Who cares if there's no plot or if it's terribly boring or inappropriately raunchy or sickeningly self indulgent, you get a whole lot of sticky crap out of your system that otherwise would sit there until you died, making you a little bit neurotic.
It's time to purge.
So, who's with us? The Deputy and I will be writing in November. This year I don't know if I will finish. And just because you start doesn't mean you have to finish either. Don't be afraid.
It'll be fun.
