Migrating Painted Lady Butterflies through San Francisco
Today, I stood in the shower, my window open and stared out at that San Francisco skyline. The light is fabulous here right now, in the spring, and the city shines and gleams on a day like today. I had been laying on the roof in my bikini moments earlier reading as the sun showered down on everything, and the morning evolved surreally, as if I was imagining it. As I looked at the crystal blue bay waters, only a few shades different blue than the sky, I noticed a steady stream of orange and black butterflies flitting past my window. They were all heading northwest.
I looked them up online, and apparently they are painted lady butterflies. They are on their way from the desert to the pacific northwest. They have been storming Sacramento and southern California since the end of March, but I can find no mention of them up here anywhere.
more later. but i have to run to work
